The
following examples are provided for illustration purposes only. Actual
procedures will be implemented at the discretion of the various countries,
and will be influenced by medical software selections, governmental
policies and national regulations.
Patient
Receives Medical Care:
The
patient's GlobalMed-ID is inserted in the CD drive of the physician's
computer. The patient and physician are prompted to enter their authorization
codes in order to access the Electronic Medical Record "EMR"
stored on the GlobalMed-ID. Patient files are downloaded to the physician's
computer; and automatically decrypted. Any new medical data is encrypted
and digitally signed prior to being uploaded to the CD. The EMR file
on the GlobalMed-ID acts as a continuously updated backup file to the
physician's records.
Patient
Requires Prescription Drugs:
Prior
to and uploading the prescription to the patient's GlobalMed-ID, it
is cross-checked with the patient's medical history to identify possible
negative side effects. The patient then presents their GlobalMed-ID
to the pharmacist. The patient and pharmacist are prompted to enter
their authorization codes to access the Pharmacy File. The pharmacist
downloads/decrypts prescription data and dispenses the medication. The
digital signature is “broken” to prevent multiple submittals.
Emergency
Medical Situation:
Emergency
medical personnel insert the patient's GlobalMed-ID in a portable computer.
Critical emergency data is accessed without requiring an Internet connection
or access codes. If the patient is unconscious, physicians may access
the patient's complete EMR using strict emergency security protocols.
Patients
Review Their EMR:
Patients
download and automatically decrypt their entire medical records by inserting
their GlobalMed-ID and entering their PIN and password. Patients may
upload data only to their "Patient Provided Data" file.
Social
Security Administration Option:
Pending
required legislation, citizens may access their Social Security files
by inserting the GlobalMed-ID, clicking the Social Security Administration
link, and entering their password. They may then conveniently file E-111/E-112
Forms and/or perform other functions online from any European location.
